Chris Lord
My name is Chris Lord and I welcome you to this black & white “Bestiarum Vocabulum.”
This site features gritty contemporary black and white images of animals, birds, and insects. For this work I have abandoned my usual use of deep and intense color, allowing myself the opportunity to take a fresh look at old and new works focusing anew on image composition, contrasts, and textures.
I’m British born and bred but New York City-based and creating digitally enhanced photographic images is my favorite thing to do. This site is a side project of my main website at Chris Lord’s Pixielated Pixels, a huge collection of over 12000 fabulous images of my contemporary photographic art and travel photography. A great source of wallart, photo decor items and gifts.
Photography has been an obsession since I was thirteen years old and went off to Italy clutching my mother’s accordion style 1940s roll film camera. I had a darkroom years ago but pouring evil chemicals in and out of containers and waiting for that timer to buzz was not my idea of fun. Now we have computers. In 1985 I first digitized images into an Amiga 1000 computer using a black and white CCTV camera making exposures through the green, red & blue cells of a color wheel. I was hooked on creating photographic art using computers. At last, in the 21st century, with today’s software and hardware, I feel that I can really create the image that I saw in my mind’s eye. Lately, I have begun to revive slides and old film scans by adding textures and using other modern techniques to update them as well as shooting even more fresh material than ever. Two years ago I decided that I needed the versatility of a really good SLR again and bought a Canon 5D and now I’m using a 5D Mark II with occasional use of my Canon Powershot G10 when traveling light. Most of the magic happens, of course, in Adobe’s fabulous Photoshop program. I spend many late nights with my butt parked in front of its wondrous arcane interface! I hope that you enjoy the results.

I now have over 12000 images to enjoy on my eccentric and extremely eclectic main photo site at Pixielated Pixels. Images are for sale in more formats, sizes and price ranges than you could dream of at Pixielated Pixels and the other sites listed. Fine Art Prints on paper or canvas, canvas wraps, framed prints, and greeting cards are available on several sites and I even have T-Shirts available on Redbubble. Many images are also available on Facebook on the Shop tab on my pages. The images on this site are not yet available as prints in their present form but other (color) versions might be available on the other sites.
